ANNS PRIVACY POLICY
BACKGROUND

The Association of Nigerians in Nova Scotia (ANNS) is committed to ensuring its adherence to the privacy protection provisions of the Freedom Of Information and Protection Of Privacy (FOIPOP) act, the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), and other applicable legislation of Canada.

All members and/or officials of ANNS involved in the handling of other members’ personal information shall be responsible for the protection of personal privacy in accordance with the stated laws and legislation above, and any privacy breach may be subject to the appropriate disciplinary action(s) in accordance with the stated laws and legislation above.
The objective of ANNS is to ensure that every reasonable effort is made to prevent unauthorized collection, usage, storage, access, use, disclosure or disposition of members’ private information.

POLICY DIRECTIVES

· ANNS shall comply with the Information Access and Privacy Office (Justice) guidelines.
· ANNS privacy policy shall be made available on ANNS website.
· ANNS members shall be able to request for updates to their personal information.
· The ANNS PRO or designate will ensure that reasonable arrangements are in place to comply with legislation regarding the protection of personal information.
· From time to time, ANNS may designate a member or a committee to monitor and review compliance with privacy obligations and recommend corrective actions annually and/or as the need arises.
· ANNS members shall be able to express concerns about compliance with the privacy policy. Such concerns shall follow the Privacy Breach protocol as maintained by the Information Access and Privacy Office (Justice) guidelines.

CONSENT

By submitting your personal information to the ANNS, you agree that ANNS may collect, use and disclose such personal information in accordance with this privacy policy and as permitted or required by law. Subject to legal and contractual requirements, you may refuse or withdraw your consent at any time by contacting ANNS. If you refuse or withdraw your consent, the ANNS may be unable to provide you or continue to provide you with certain services, program detail and/or information which may be of value to you. If you provide the ANNS with personal information of another individual, you will need to provide authorization with due consent from such person to enable the ANNS to collect, use and disclose such personal information for the purposes set forth in this privacy policy.
